Marco is based in our Mexico office. He recently celebrated his first year with Proco, so we asked him to reflect upon his time and highlights working with the company.

Where did you work before joining Proco?
Before Proco I was working for another recruitment company. After 1 year at Proco, I can safely say that they are a completely different company, in a good way.

What attracted you to Proco?
My intention was to continue to learn from the world of recruitment and to be regarded as a person and not just another number. In Proco I found the human side that I had not had in previous experiences.

Whilst interviewing for my position I spoke with Stephen Smith, who at that time was the regional CEO across the Americas, now Chief Customer Officer for Proco Group – I couldn’t believe it. How could a potential consultant have such contact with one of the senior leaders within the company? With the exposure and networking that Proco gives you, it was hard to say no to the opportunity.

What do you enjoy about your role?
I love meeting new people! I get paid to talk to people on a daily basis and learn new skills. Every day is a different challenge because when working with people, everything can change from one moment to the next – you never know what situation is going to present to you.

What are some highlights of your time at Proco?
The learning. During my time here at Proco I have gained the knowledge of both the practices of recruitment and the supply chain, that a year ago I didn’t even know existed.

How has Proco helped you in your career development?
The support and mentoring I’ve received since day one has been fantastic. Not only from the team here in Mexico, but the entire global network of the company. Without a doubt, I am a more mature professional today than I was a year ago and all this has been based not only on my efforts, but also everyone’s willingness to help and support. Every single person here at Proco really makes you feel that there is no silly question and I know that I will be grateful for the opportunities that Proco has brought me.

What advice do you have for prospective Proco candidates?
Nobody is born dreaming of being a headhunter although after two years of being one, I don’t understand why. Give yourself the opportunity to get out of the ordinary, trust your skills and demonstrate all the talent you have. It is a very hard business, but if you work hard you will see that you can fall in love with this business.

What are three words that you would use to describe Proco?
Ambition, human and knowledge.

Has your idea of recruitment changed since joining Proco?
Yes and I repeat – Proco is a very human company, not only for its workers, but also for it’s candidates. Being a more specialised recruitment company, we create long lasting relationships with each of our candidates and put ourselves in their shoes as we know how frustrating it can be when looking for your next career move. Proco strives for quality, but without neglecting people.

What do you think sets Proco apart from other recruitment companies?
Proco isn’t a typical recruitment company. Having the flexibility with your workers, ability to network worldwide and that no matter your level, you can always pick up the phone to the CEO of the company with any questions or concerns.

You don’t come to the office just for work. The work environment is enjoyable and I’ve made lifelong friends here at Proco!
