After celebrating his 7 year anniversary here at Proco Global, we asked Pete what his highlights are thus far and what he has learned in the role as the Head of Practice for Life Sciences across the EMEA region.
Where did you work before joining Proco?
I worked in “boutiques” (smaller search firms in the field of Supply Chain), and before that, in Sales & Operations within a French sports retainer called Decathlon.
What attracted you to Proco?
We were in competition during my time at the other firms, so the company was firmly on my radar. Mutual clients had given a strong review of the business, and as I wanted a more international platform, Proco made a lot of sense to me. As a result, I approached the business to explore opportunities and as they say… the rest is history.
What do you enjoy about your role?
My main enjoyment comes from visibly making a difference to the growth of Proco Global and our clients simultaneously. The role also gives me the privilege of engaging with the leaders in industry, who naturally have some very inspiring stories to tell.
What are some highlights of your time at Proco?
Celebratory moments with people in my team, and the wider business, have always been the high points – whether that’s simply breaking ground with a new client, celebrating career promotions, or joining up with other colleagues from other offices for quarterly incentives. Never a dull moment!
How has Proco helped you in your career development?
Proco has the right blend of platform and backing for its people, to enable us to disrupt the market (in a good way). This has ultimately led to me personally having the exposure and scope to build a high performing business from the ground up. The knowledge gained in the these moments beats any training program that we have ever developed.
What advice do you have for prospective Proco candidates?
Learn from the people around you and absorb the culture, but always aim to add something special to what we already have. Anyone can make their mark in this environment.
What are three words that you would used to describe Proco?
Resilient, Pioneering, and Authentic
Has your idea of recruitment changed since joining Proco?
Whilst a number of external factors (technology, networking platforms etc.) have changed in the world of recruitment, the principles of treating people well and being an asset remain. Today, our business is built on the individual interactions (not transactions) and always striving to deliver more value. The emergence of internal talent teams, RPO models and the like means that our engagement with the market has had to adapt. What stays consistent, however, is the brand of recruitment that we offer – this is ultimately the biggest enabler for sustainable growth.
What do you think sets Proco apart from other recruitment companies?
We have been very adept at finding the niche within the niche, and working to support clients in some of the real pressure points of their business. This has enabled us to open up in markets that have traditionally been fairly routine and mature in recruitment terms.
There is a such a deep level of specialism and anticipation of future talent developments in some areas of our organisation that is unmatched elsewhere in the sector. Add this to the client centric approach to doing business, and you can see why clients keep coming back.
