Tom is celebrating an incredible 5 years with us here at Proco Group. As such, we asked about his highlights at Proco so far and his advice for anyone thinking of applying to Proco in the future.

Where did you work before joining Proco?
I was working for another recruitment firm in Brighton, before joining Proco. The firm specialised in placing graduate and senior level contractors into financial services organisations. I was there for 4+ years, responsible as the Head of Graduate recruitment for 2 of them.

What attracted you to Proco?
The people are genuinely great and the fact that they were a global brand was also very exciting. At the time, I knew that if I wanted to stay in recruitment, then I would work in Executive Search. It’s not only the most lucrative form of what we do, but it’s also the most rewarding, from an L&D perspective. Additionally, focusing on Automotive future mobility was something I knew that I would be really passionate about.

What do you enjoy about your role?
The client side in particular – I’m at my happiest when I’m out meeting people, getting to know the culture of their business.

What are some highlights of your 5 years at Proco?
The incentives and extra-curricular things that we do are great, whether that means dining at the top restaurants in Europe, or raising money for charities through bike rides, runs, and swims. My personal highlight over the past 5 years has been getting married and having our first baby boy!

How has Proco helped you in your career development?
Continuous improvement is a big part of our culture. I’ve been really lucky to find a role that constantly helps me develop and grow every year – which has been possible by drawing the immense knowledge and talent from the people around me. Proco is filled with willing mentors.

What advice do you have for prospective Proco candidates?
Place client care at the core of what you do. Be decisive. Work hard to become an expert in your field.

What are three words that you would use to describe Proco?
Ambitious. Rewarding. Fun.

Has your idea of recruitment changed since joining Proco?
My idea of recruitment has changed to an extent. Everyone knows that it is an industry in which you get out what you put in. There are points where you will have the absolute best moments of your life, but also points where you will have some of the most soul-destroying as well. Proco teaches you to build your business on very strong foundations. Treat what you do with pride and run it like it’s your own, so that the best moments are significantly more commonly occurring than the worst.

What do you think sets Proco apart from other recruitment companies?
Our adaptability. Knowing when there needs to be a united effort to achieve shared goals and also knowing when to ‘down tools’ and go and celebrate/blow off steam.
