Hispanic Heritage Month 2025: Jenny Pierre

hispanic heritage month

Hispanic Heritage Month is a nationwide observance that celebrates the rich history, culture, and lasting contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States.

The month-long celebration takes place annually from September 15 through October 15.

This year’s theme, “Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future,” emphasizes the value of intergenerational connection and shared legacy. To commemorate the occasion, we spoke with inspiring Hispanic and Latino leaders across our three core markets, exploring how their heritage has shaped their personal journeys, influenced their careers, and continues to guide future generations.

In this interview, we feature Jenny Pierre, Human Resources Director at SucroCan Sourcing.

How has your Hispanic/Latino heritage shaped your leadership style and career journey?

I am proud to be from El Salvador. My parents left high-level careers in Central America to give my brother and me a better life and start over in the US. Their courage, work ethic, and willingness to take risks shaped who I am today. They taught me that hard work and resilience open doors, and those lessons guide me every day in my career and in how I lead others.

What traditions or values from your background do you bring into your work and leadership?

In HR, I love to create a space where everyone’s traditions are valued—just as I value my own. Whether it’s sharing a simple home remedy for a cold or celebrating someone’s national holiday, I try to make people feel included and proud of where they come from. Inclusion is about recognizing the beauty in each culture, and I carry that with me in everything I do.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you personally and professionally?

For me, Hispanic Heritage Month is about honoring where we come from, celebrating the strength and diversity of our communities, and recognizing the contributions of those who paved the way for us. It is a time of pride, reflection, and gratitude.

What does “home” mean to you, and how has that shaped your journey?

Home, for me, is anywhere my family is. The older I get, the more I appreciate the traditions I once took for granted – like making homemade cheese or traditional Salvadoran dishes. Sharing these experiences with my husband and daughter has made me treasure them even more. Home is not just a place – it’s a connection to our roots, our family, and the love we pass down.

Looking ahead, how do you hope to inspire future Hispanic/Latino leaders in your industry?

I love working in HR because it allows me to connect with people from all backgrounds and celebrate the richness of our differences. I hope to inspire future Hispanic and Latino leaders by showing that our heritage is a strength, not a limitation. I want to help break stereotypes, share the traditions and recipes that shaped me, and remind others that every story matters. Our past inspires us, and our diversity will continue to shape a brighter, more inclusive future.
