Hispanic Heritage Month is a nationwide celebration honoring Hispanic and Latino history, culture, and contributions in the United States. It takes place each year from September 15 to October 15.
This year’s theme, “Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future,” highlights the importance of connection across generations. To mark the occasion, we spoke with inspiring Hispanic and Latino leaders from our three core markets to learn about their heritage, the role it has played in shaping their lives and careers, and the ways it will continue to inspire future generations.
In this interview we speak to Monserrat Orduña, Senior Settlements Analyst at ARM Energy.
How has your Hispanic/Latino heritage shaped your leadership style and career journey?
Hispanic culture is known for its deep connection and value to family and community. For me, this means leading with respect and empathy, supporting others in any way possible.
What traditions or values from your background do you bring into your work and leadership?
I firmly believe that my heritage and education have instilled in me a strong work ethic and a deep sense of professionalism in everything I do. I’m committed to creating inclusive environments where everyone I work with feels valued, respected, and empowered. Navigating cultural and systemic barriers have also shaped my resilience and sharpened my problem-solving skills, allowing me to approach challenges with both empathy and determination
What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you personally and professionally?
I think is very important, now more than ever. To have the opportunity to elevate the visibility and representation of the contributions our community has made to this country. And it’s equally important to honor the path our ancestors paved, their resilience and sacrifice continue to inspire future generations.
What does “home” mean to you, and how has that shaped your journey?
As an immigrant, the meaning of “home” has evolved over the years. But I’ve learned that it’s community, the people, the connections, and shared experiences. That truly make a place feel like home
Looking ahead, how do you hope to inspire future Hispanic/Latino leaders in your industry?
I hope to inspire future Hispanic/Latino leaders in my industry by leading with authenticity and resilience. I want to show that it’s possible to honor your cultural identity while excelling professionally and making meaningful impact. Representation matters, and I’m committed to being a visible example that success is not only possible, but also a powerful tool for lifting up our communities.
